Greenspace for Westchase

Westchase District is building vibrant gathering places for our community;

WDCF supports those efforts through community fundraising

At a board retreat in 2004, the Westchase District Board of Directors developed a plan to build multiple community gathering places connected by a network of hike and bike trails.

That dream started becoming a reality in 2012 when construction begin on the Library Loop Trail. Less than ten years later, Westchase District is home to five miles of trails, plus the first of two, fully-programmed parks.

The WDCF assisted these efforts by raising money from the local community to build amenities (benches, water fountains, signage) along the trail. We also solicited money from the community for special events at Woodchase Park. And we’ve raised $3.2 million to make the planned Wilcrest Park just as spectacular as it was originally envisioned.

WOODCHASE PARK: A PLAN EXECUTED

Woodchase Park features a children’s play area, dog park, water misting feature, community garden, restrooms, fitness space, a 2,700-square-foot multi-purpose pavilion and 7,500-square-foot activity lawn.

Regularly scheduled activities at Woodchase Park include Tai Chi lessons, Zumba classes, boot camp and chess play. Young Audiences Houston brings weekly art, music and cultural activities to the park.

Thanks to contributions from corporate sponsors and neighborhood organizations, Woodchase Park will host four special events throughout the year: Spring Break; the Summer Spectacular; Halloween; and Christmas Celebration,

CAMDEN PARK: A COMMUNITY GATHERING PLACE

Westchase District will build, staff, maintain and program Camden Park, which is currently under construction at 2951 Wilcrest Drive. Events and activities will be offered for a wide range of audiences. Daily, weekly, monthly and annual events will give people reasons to come to Camden Park, and to return. Camden Park will have an onsite restaurant, Ginger Kale, which will be pattered after a similar concept in Hermann Park. Camden Park will have distinct features that will support signature events, including a planned Spring Music Series, Summer Movie Nights, Howl-O-Ween and a Christmas Market. Westchase District is actively building a network of program partners to assist in park programming. Camden Park is named in honor of its primary donor, Camden Property Trust.
